Johansson and co-workers compare regulations in Sweden governing recycling and mining. There is abundant metal to recycle, which would be more profitable if not for regulations making mining more attractive. Subsidies to mining were found to be 60 times larger than to recycling in the year 2010. On top of that the mining industry is excluded from deposition tax which would amount to 40 billion SEK.
