Ter-Mikaelian and co-authors debunk the myth that bioenergy from wood gives instant climate mitigation. Rather it takes up to a hundred years before wood bioenergy yields less greenhouse gas emissions than fossil fuels, if all things are considered. The authors do not want to discourage the use of biofuels however, since they argue that the alternative is worse in the long run. In doing so they neglect the risk of reaching climate tipping points. Read the whole paper in the Journal of Forestry.
