Berglund and Jonsson (2008) evaluated the vulnerability for extinction for wood-inhabiting fungal species in old-growth remnant in boreal forests in northern Sweden. They compare woodland key habitats that had been isolated for different periods of time and conclude there is an extinction debt for species specialized on coarse dead wood and old-growth forest. This indicates it is not sufficient to just save the woodland key habitats. Read the whole article in Biological Conservation
