Bala and co-workers performed simulation studies on how large-scale deforestation influences the carbon cycle and the climate. The models used indicate that albedo (the proportion of light reflected by the earth’s surface) increases without forest. Although this could in principle be used to defend clear-cutting of forests to reduce climate warming, authors point out that forests offer many other benefits that should be taken into account.
